Classical Realism is a contemporary art movement that brings together the best of 19th century realism training and present day subject matter. “Classical” refers to the movement’s aesthetic, favouring order, beauty, harmony and completeness, and “Realism” refers to art made from direct observation and realistic representation from life.
In 2017, we are witnessing a realist revival, with the flourishing of schools that develop a high level of skills, especially excellent draftsmanship. The Grand Central Academy, the Florence Academy of Art and the Angel Academy of Art as a few of the schools training a generation of artists, who in turn, train their own students with these skills.
